On Behalf of | Jul 22, 2023 | Divorce |

Research shows a significant number of people regret their divorce. The first thing people wonder is why? Then they wonder how they can prevent these issues.

Here are some statistics regarding divorce regrets.

How many people regret divorce?

On average, about 30 percent of people regretted their divorce. About 27 percent of females and 32 percent of males regretted divorce. There are a variety of reasons people regret it.

Does infidelity cause divorce?

Infidelity is one of the most common reasons marriages fall apart. It can occur in any marriage. About 25 percent of males and 20 percent of females will cheat on their spouse during their marriage.

How many cheaters regret divorce?

The majority of people who divorce due to cheating regret it. That is largely due to a hasty divorce and failure to set themselves up for a successful life after marriage, which is something an experienced attorney can help with.

How successful are cheaters in future relationships?

Very few cheaters end up marrying the person they cheated with and those who do, often end up divorcing that person. That is because a lot of people who cheat on one spouse continue this behavior in future relationships. This is serial infidelity.

Why else do couples regret divorce?

Other reasons that ex-spouses regret divorce include:

  • Loneliness from being away from their family
  • Renewed love from remaining feelings
  • Negative impacts on children that are not properly planned for in the agreements
  • Financial problems that they could have reduced with proper planning

The reasons differ between men and women and many are preventable.

About one-third of people regret their divorce. That can rise significantly if a couple did not plan their divorce carefully and minimize reasons for regret by working with an experienced attorney.
